As I read Forbes magazine’s online article, I talked about Gulliver Auto’s DX strategy, so I’d like to write a little.DX is an abbreviation for Digital Transformation. For example, Sony uses existing technology to manufacture EVs, and Toyota builds a transportation infrastructure called MaaS. In this way, creating new value that has never existed with IT is called DX.

In DX, the word “cliff of 2025” has become a hot topic. This means that if a company cannot provide IT-based new services and products in 2025, it will be left behind. But it’s not easy to do. Everyone remembers the iPhone and iPod developed by Steve Jobs. If you remember that even Sony couldn’t develop such a product, you’ll know the difficulty.

MaaS is a general term for the infrastructure of transportation means other than automobiles (for example, buses, trains, bicycles, mobility that can accommodate a large number of people), and CASE is the automation of automobiles using IT.

Is an initiative to do. CASE mainly refers to the efforts of automobile manufacturers, and MaaS mainly covers all industries including start-up companies and existing automobile manufacturers.

In this Forbes magazine article, Gulliver, who sells and assesses used cars in Japan, introduces efforts to provide a new experience related to vehicle assessments and vehicles that utilize apps from conventional vehicle assessments. And this article points out that many companies mistakenly think that DX will be complete if they update their cloud and infrastructure to the latest.

However, as I explained earlier, DX provides a new service that does not exist, so that leaves us behind the times. Rather, the cloud and infrastructure of the past remain a value and must be considered important for doing existing business.

Even in that sense, just updating the cloud IT infrastructure to the latest does not make sense. Currently, some companies are taking a flexible approach such as updating some of their operations to the latest cloud.

The common feature of the DX strategies introduced here by Gulliver, Toyota, and Sony is “how to provide services that are useful to users.” It’s not about giving people the latest cutting edge technology. You can think of it as a service that supports people’s richer lives, which is a little more universal value. Here, in a nutshell, the manufacturing industry becomes the service industry, and the service industry becomes the software company. These are big changes even if simply considered.

Companies have to think and design so that people will naturally accept these services and products. It can be said that this is an effort to master the humanities and sciences.

In Japan, I don’t mean that I do general affairs and HR jobs because I’m a humanities student, and development jobs because I’m a science student.

For example, in Japanese carmaker Honda, there are some cases where the person in charge of development moves to a public relations officer. If you introduce your car to such people, people will become more attractive to your car. I think that this is also an initiative that is more useful to users, that is, a proposal of new value, than the technology introduced earlier.

Similarly, Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota has established a DX related company that brings together people from various industries. There, not only people from the same industry, but people from various industries gather to advance Toyota’s MaaS development. Here, as President Toyota says, it is not clear if this company will exist in the future. Even that Toyota must use such a “experimental” company to advance DX.

If you think so, it can be seen that DX is not only the latest IT infrastructure but also an idea.
Speaking of which, Vitalik Buterin who developed the Cryptocurrency Ethereum, heard that he started by traveling the world to learn about human psychology. When I actually see his Twitter, I tweet a lot of philosophical ideas other than technology. The story of being an excellent engineer and philosopher like him is very romantic.

Gulliver introduced here also started a car assessment service called “Gulliver Auto App”. Here again, the focus is how to provide users with fun and convenient services. To that end, Gulliver leverages and leverages the latest cloud and IT infrastructure.
